ALEX SCOTT MBE JOINS LEGENDS OF FOOTBALL
London, 5 June 2019
Legends of Football is pleased to announce that Alex Scott, one of the country’s leading football pundits, will co-host this year’s event alongside Sky Sports’ Geoff Shreeves.
Following her pioneering entry into the football punditry world, former England and Arsenal full-back Alex Scott will compère the annual fundraising night where former managerial giant Arsène Wenger will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in October.
Having retired from playing in 2017, after becoming England Women’s second most capped player and competing in seven major tournaments, Alex entered the world of broadcasting. The former Arsenal captain started her on-screen punditry of the men’s game as part of Sky Sports’ coverage of the Premier League and then as part of the BBC’s 2018 World Cup line-up. Her in-depth analysis and knowledge during the tournament led to Sky Sports signing her to their roster of full-time pundits for the 2018-19 Premier League season.
Alex Scott commented: “As an Arsenal fan, former player and captain, being asked to host this year when Arsène Wenger is being honoured is a huge privilege. Having attended the past few years, I know what an incredible night this will be. I can’t wait to join Geoff in October in helping honour Arsène and also raise funds for Nordoff Robbins, who do such amazing work.”
Alex’s connection to Arsenal spans a 16-year period, which began at the age of eight when she joined the Centre of Excellence. During her three spells with the club, interspersed with stints at Birmingham City and Boston Breakers, Alex won five Premier League titles, one Women’s Super League and seven FA Cups. She was also part of Arsenal Women’s historic 2006-07 “Quadruple” winning side, which won every competition they entered including the UEFA Women’s Cup.
The world of football and music will flock to JW Marriott Grosvenor House London on Monday 7 October 2019 to honour Wenger, who follows in the footsteps of Sir Alex Ferguson, Pelé and Frank Lampard OBE who received the award last year.
Legends of Football is an annual charity event, supported by the Premier League in aid of music therapy charity, Nordoff Robbins. The dinner has raised a staggering £8m since Jimmy Greaves was Guest of Honour at its inaugural event in 1996.
Geoff Shreeves, Legends of Football chairman and Sky Sports presenter commented: “Having made such a huge positive impression on all of us at Sky over the past year or so, I’m delighted Alex has come aboard for the Legends of Football event in October. As a former Gunner, she had no hesitation in accepting my invitation, to be part of a tribute to Arsène. As a past attendee, Alex knows that this will be a spectacular night not only honouring one of the Premier League’s greatest ever managers but also because of the incredible generosity shown by those that attend which is crucial to the work Nordoff Robbins do.”
